Gaelic language and culture enjoys a rich and continuous history in Cape Breton - Unama’ki, from the 1700's to the present day and we are uniquely positioned as home to one of the last remaining living Gaelic communities in the world. Many of our Gaelic ancestors arrived from the Highlands and Islands of Scotland in the late 1700's and 1800's. Suas leis a Ghàidhlig (Up with Gaelic)
Discover the sights and sounds of beautiful Sydney by-the-sea, featuring world famous locations and fascinating stories with a Gaelic focus. Enjoy a walking tour of historic Sydney north end and downtown architecture, monuments, and art, culminating with an interactive Gaelic Song Milling Frolic at a local venue. Come join us at the song table, enjoy a few easy phrases and choruses, with your guide, a fluent local Gaelic speaker and singer.
We would like to acknowledge that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. We are in Unimaki. Our relationship is based on a series of “Peace and Friendship Treaties” between the unconquered Mi’kmaq nation and the Crown dating back to 1725.
In Nova Scotia we recognize that we are all treaty people.
Robyn Carrigan, fifth-generation Maritime Gael, culture bearer and professional musician, shares song, poetry and stories of life from Gaelic Nova Scotia and the exciting Gaelic cultural revitalization currently taking place!
